European Macro Policy Network (EMPN)

Through the European Macro Policy Network (EMPN), we support and connect teams of researchers, think tanks and educational organisations who work on updating and evolving the European fiscal and monetary architecture. We also aim to deepen inner-European exchange and debate around financial, monetary and economic policy.

About the EMPN

At the end of 2021, we established the European Macro Policy Network (EMPN). Thanks to the support of our US-based funder Open Philanthropy, we have been able to support other European organisations working on issues close to our hearts: Financial, Monetary and Economic Policy. We fund teams at universities and non-university research institutions as well as think tanks and educational organisations.

The aim of the network is to deepen inner-European scientific and public exchange and debate. We believe that such a deepening is conducive to long-term progress with regards to the fiscal and monetary architecture of Europe. Beyond evolving this architecture via reform options viable today, through the EMPN we also want to discuss and explore more fundamental reform options so that Europe’s financial architecture can better serve the common goals of the European Union and its citizens.

In our role as regranters for Open Philanthropy, we are independent in our award decisions. Our only two non-negotiables are: recipients must work on macro-economic or macro-financial issues in Europe; and recipients must be recognised as non-profit organisations.
